Review & Description

Crying Without Tears is about a purveyor of revenge.  It’s all he lives for.  One victim a year, every year, selected from the jobsworths, the bureaucrats, and the hurters. But he lets his victims hang themselves; exposes their reality by prising open their cupboards and dusting down their skeletons.  Tom, a private investigator, is his crowbar.  An expert in the art of exposé, what he doesn’t know, he knows how to find out.
Then Pat, a close friend, kills himself.  His suicide note reveals a secret that’s driven him to end his life.  Shortly after, ten friends meet, each to confess their clandestine truth, the one that haunts them, the one they wished they didn’t have to deal with alone.  The idea being to free themselves from the misery of untruths; but it also exposed the infallibility of our storyteller’s theory, for each one confessed something they’d concealed.  Ironically, his own skeleton was his lust for revenge.  So he admitted it, and bragged, “name a name, and we’ll see if we can’t bring them down”.  But, unknowingly, they picked a big fish, a shark.  It was a big mistake.
