Review & Description

This is a collection of nine stories, all based (unfortunately) on my own dating experience. After nineteen years of marriage, I was suddenly thrust into a brave new world of dating—online, offline, standing in line, listening to lines—and I’ve survived to tell these tales. CAUTION: if you’re contemplating divorce, these stories may convince you to consider marriage counseling. If you’re out there dating, chances are you will relate. OMG! Here’s a scary thought: maybe you’ve met some of these guys! Names have been changed to protect the guilty.

About the author:

Suzanne's short story Downhill was first published in Arts Perspective Magazine. Rock Bottom is published in the Mota 9: Addiction anthology, available on Kindle. Her short story Ghost Plane (not included in the Dating My Vibrator collection) was published by Crimespree Magazine. Venus Faded appears in the anthology Pronto! Writings from Rome, along with notable authors including: Dorothy Allison, Elizabeth Engstrom, Terry Brooks, and John Saul. Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers awarded her first prize in the Colorado Gold Writing Contest, and Maui Writers awarded her third prize in the Rupert Hughes writing competition.

Review & Description

Kenny Elliot is back and better than ever. The male protagonist from [Twisted Perception] is still a cop and this time he is involved in a series of murders that appear to be connected to the occult.

Where, in these bizarre murders, do the Stone family fit in? Reverend Marshall Coronet and the Church of the Divine Revelation? A prostitute and an extremely unusual “john?”

This cop is down-to-earth and beset by the same problems as the rest of us, which makes this slightly flawed character all the more impressive and endearing to his readers. In the middle of all the action, our hero falls in love. Is this the end of his bachelor days? Or does his “true love” have feet of clay?

The entertaining and ever- twisting plot line of Beneath a Buried House will leave you biting your fingernails and guessing right up until the dramatic, unexpected last few pages. Sit back and read. I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down.

Dancing Upon the Shore (Kindle Edition)

Review & Description

With an unflinching eye and nimble prose, Dancing Upon the Shore explores the intricacies of a relationship. The novel follows a couple from their first tentative steps of courtship to their life together as lovers.
Unsparingly, the author allows the reader an intimate look into the tenderness, the passion, the wit, the cruelty, the jealousy, the rivalry, the desperation, the affection, and finally the pathos that marks the enduring mystery known as love.
Although Dancing Upon the Shore tracks the arc of a particular couple in a particular time and at a particular place (Southern California), the story has the weight and depth of a myth, with each chapter an odyssey, a trial, if you will, which reflects the human experience of love.
This novel will resonate in the hearts and minds of its readers long after they have completed the last page. Read more

Review & Description

Around the time of his own father's funeral ten years ago, David Everitt reads a letter from a friend of his mother's first husband, Sam Kramer, who was killed in combat just days before the end of World War II. The letter establishes once and for all that Sam was a war hero, and that his death was not merely an accident of war. While Everitt had consciously ignored the history of his mother's first marriage, even though she had saved each of Sam's letters from the battlefront, he is now prompted to learn more about Kramer and about his mother's past. As with the remarkable film The Best Years of Our Lives, Remembering Sam takes readers back to World War II America, to the days of Rosie-the-Riveter patriotism, the brutality and terror of the front lines, and the aftermath of war on its civilian survivors. Review & Description

A gripping memoir of America in the '60s, of idealists turned radicals, and of a life lived on the run

In February 2008, in the heat of the Democratic primary elections, speculations began circulating in the media about a connection between presidential hopeful Barack Obama and Bill Ayers, a former member of the radical 1960s group the Weather Underground. In Fugitive Days, Ayers tells the real story of the defining events of the radical '60s. The book is an eyewitness account of a young pacifist who helped found one of the most radical political organizations in U.S. history, and who consequently lived for ten years as a fugitive. In a new era of antiwar activism and suppression of protest, Fugitive Days is more poignant and relevant than ever.

"For anyone who wants to think hard about the social conflagration the Vietnam War produced in the U.S., and more generally about a citizen's obligations in troubled times, Ayers's powerful, morally charged account of a life and a society in the political balance is provocative reading."
—David Farber, Chicago Tribune

"A memoir that is, in effect, a deeply moving elegy to all those young dreamers who tried to live decently in an indecent world. Ayers provides a tribute to those better angels of ourselves."
—Studs Terkel, author of Working and The Good War Read more

Review & Description

The year is 1969... a time when the youth of America is standing up to its elder rulers, when minorities are demanding their fair share of the American pie. A time when an eternal war fought for misbegotten motives and fueled by a continuous stream of some of the most outrageous lies ever fed to a people by its leadership over the previous eight years continues to gut an entire generation. A time when the old values, the old expectations, the old imperatives are knocked flat.

Seen through the eyes of 21 year old college senior John Cassell, always out of money and soon to be out of college, it is a saga of coming of age at a time when the younger generation accepted very little of the old yardsticks and Thou-Shalt-Nots which traditionally helped that process along.

Based on a true story, and the stories of others, the book follows the young man into the year 1969 as he struggles with the decisions expected of him by elders and demanded of him by life. Read more

Kurzbeschreibung

A Short History of Nearly Everything".

The Sex Virus (Kindle Edition)

The Sex Virus
The Sex Virus (Kindle Edition)
By Darrell Bain

Review & Description

A clandestine society, financed by a billionaire, has created a new infectious virus capable of inserting genes which determine the way individuals feel about sex. The FBI and CDC have been targeted first, in hopes that infected personnel will hamper any investigation. The virus spreads rapidly, but its effects are not noticed by individuals to begin with--and when discovered, the change in sexual attitudes is not recognized as something induced into the body from an outside source. When an FBI investigator finally does suspect that something unusual is going on, the Center for Disease Control is contacted and brought into the investigation. It is quickly discovered that indeed a virus capable of changing sexual attitudes is spreading over the world. While the FBI and CDC are racing to discover the originators of the virus and to create a cure or vaccine, the investigation is hampered by the fact that the agents themselves are becoming infected. The men and women trying desperately to stop the sex virus have to cope with their own changed attitudes and hope the virus can be stopped before society is irrevocably changed. And it may already be too late. Read more

Incubus Dreams (Kindle Edition)

Incubus Dreams
Incubus Dreams (Kindle Edition)
By Laurell K. Hamilton

Review & Description

Anita is pushed to her limits-both professionally and passionately-when she is called in on what appears to be a case involving a vampire serial killer preying on strippers. As Incubus Dreams opens, Anita Blake may be America's most powerful vampire hunter and necromancer. So it's no surprise that the Regional Preternatural Crime Investigation Team seeks her assistance when a St. Louis stripper is murdered and the evidence points to unusual serial killers: a group of seven vampires. It appears a master vampire has gone rogue--and may prove too powerful for Anita Blake, even if she can gain help from not only her vampire consort, Master of the City Jean-Claude, but from the wereleopard king Micah, her other lover, and the alpha werewolf Richard, her bitter ex-lover.

It would be an exaggeration to say that Laurell K. Hamilton's Incubus Dreams is just one sex scene after another. This twelth novel in her bestselling Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series presents a wedding, a murder, and a lot of relationship angst before getting down and dirty on page 89; and the sex scenes pause on page 377 to let the mystery plot resume. The series deftly blends elements of alternate history, horror, romance, erotica, and mystery, but anyone reading Incubus Dreams for the murder plot is going to be frustrated. However, Incubus Dreams is a considerably stronger and more interesting book than its talky predecessor, Cerulean Sins, and fans will enjoy the many new developments in Anita's complicated love life. --Cynthia Ward

Cerulean Sins (Kindle Edition)

Cerulean Sins
Cerulean Sins (Kindle Edition)
By Laurell K. Hamilton

Review & Description

Once a sworn enemy of all monsters, Anita is now the human consort of both Master Vampire Jean Claude and leopard shapeshifter Micah. When a centuries-old vampire hits St. Louis, Anita finds herself needing all the dark forces her passion can muster to save the ones she loves.Laurell K. Hamilton's legions of eager fans will be pleased to see Cerulean Sins), the eleventh novel in her Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, which is set on an alternate Earth where magic works and vampires and werewolves are real. When a sinister stranger tries to hire the magically potent Anita Blake to raise the dead, she finds herself embroiled in the search for a vicious, supernatural serial killer, and also in the clandestine international politics of the vampires. And as she becomes more deeply enmeshed in cruel plots and counterplots, her tangled personal life only becomes more demanding, more wrenching, and more erotically fraught.

With ten previous books in the Anita Blake series, Cerulean Sins is not the place to start. Though author Hamilton artfully reveals the backstory in small doses, the numerous returning characters and the complex history will overwhelm most newcomers (and even the most devoted fans may find that the backfilling slows the pace). Also, the characters frequently stand around talking and psychoanalyzing one another, which makes for static stretches unlikely to hold a new reader's attention. Newcomers should start with the first book, Guilty Pleasures. --Cynthia Ward Read more
